A quick look at NDTV's Indian of the Year winners.
Speaking to NDTV Chairman Dr Prannoy Roy and NDTV 24x7's Managing Editor Barkha Dutt at the awards function on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said that if the Indo-US nuclear deal doesn't work out, his government will deal with it. But added that elections looked like they would take place on time.
The King Khan of Indian cinema, Shahrukh Khan, won a special NDTV award for his contribution to cinema in 2007. He had a special interaction with Rahul Gandhi at the awards ceremony.
Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani was the undisputed winner of Business Leader of the Year award.
After receiving the award from Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Ambani said if he was described as the World's Richest Man in the year 2007, this year he would like to be known as the man responsible for rural transformation in India.
But when questioned as to whether making millions was in the family genes, Senior Ambani had an interesting take.
''I really think that when we were brought up the riches business amused me but you need a certain amount to get there. Beyond that it doesn't make any difference. I think what is important is the satisfaction you get in executing business models and making sure you are generating something that is economically sustainable.
''You are building institutions that will last beyond you. It's not just the gene, it's the opportunity in India and our ability,'' he said.
